Some years ago, my boyfriend cheated on me, and instead of cowering in the corner and questioning my self-worth, I made money.

I call it “heartbreak money.”

Here’s how:

When I’m feeling down, happy, excited, or afraid. I write. So, when I found out my boyfriend was cheating on me, I went straight home, opened my laptop, and began typing.

Two hours later, I had written a 4000-word rant about my rotten-to-the-core, good-for-nothing boyfriend.

I had spent years with this loser, and the whole time, he had another girlfriend.

Anyway, that night, I went to bed feeling calm after releasing all my rage during my writing session.

I woke up the next day and made the decision to publish my story as a series on my blog about relationships.

I published the story and shared the link on Facebook. I had no expectations at all for the success of the story.

Three weeks passed by, and I checked my blog stats, and holy crap!

300,000 views! WTF!

People were asking for the next segment in the story, and when I logged into Facebook, the notifications kept popping up! So many comments about the story!

“Hmmm, I think I’m on to something here.” I whispered to myself.

I went on to publish the next segment of the story, and again, the story went viral.

I decided to create a series of short stories about my relationship and other issues.

The stories flew off the digital shelves! Crazy!

Eventually, the buzz died down and the money dried up, but it was great while it lasted!

In three months, I made $40,000 from ads, story sales, and a couple of sponsorship deals.

Not too shabby!

Thanks, Ben; you did my favor! I finished paying my mortgage with that money!

Now, I’m the proud owner of a one-bedroom apartment in East London, UK.

I’m not mad at him.

Moral of the story: air your dirty laundry out in your stories; people love it.

I mean, you don’t have to tell your whole life story, but add some personal touches to your stories. Inject them with some “true juice.”

You won’t regret it.

Happy story-writing!
